Meet Nekeia Colcloughly, the phenomenal woman and founder of Shear Essence Hair Salon. Nekeia started styling in the 90s. On her first day of cosmetology school, she fell head over shears and her love for hair has only grown. From high school to cosmetology school to working as an assistant at one of the most popular salons in the state of New Jersey, Nekeia was thriving her way through the industry. At no point did she think of opening her very own salon. It wasn’t until she had graduated college and was trying to figure out her post-grad plan that she got the idea to be her own boss. Many of her former co-workers were branching off and opening salons and while opening her own salon was still not her plan or passion, she did see it as attainable. Everywhere she went there seemed to be a message telling her to open a salon. While it may seem cliche,  she had a dream, she was standing in the middle of her very own salon. Shortly after, she had passed by a space for rent, peeked inside and just as her dream had shown it, her salon was right before her eyes and that’s when she decided to go for it. 
 
In 2004, Shear Essence was born and has been delivering professional and exceptional hair care since. While Shear Essence has established an award-winning reputation we are not finished yet. Nekeia plans to branch out into salon education and turn Shear Essence into a franchise with ambitious plans for locations all over the country. Nekeia loves all things hair and hopes that whenever anyone enters her salon they feel the passion she has as soon as they step foot in the door. To do what Nekeia does takes great courage, dedication and discipline, which she hopes to share with everyone she comes in contact with. “I hope I am teaching the next generation to be committed and consistent and that they can go for their dreams no matter what they may be.” says Nekeia.
